At Hackett, the host Irish outscored Parchment 40-23 in the second half to pull away. ``It was a total team effort for us,'' Hackett coach Mike Low said. ``Jim Murphy had his best game of the year and Mike Fish played great defense. We really used our size advantage well.'' Ben Thayer led Hackett (9-5, 3-5 KVA) with 16 points. Murphy added 15 points, including three 3-pointers, and Matt Scudder had 14. Denver Baker hit four 3-pointers and finished with 15 points for Parchment (10-5, 5-4). Matt Chappell added 14.

Coach T comments: Let me start by offering up a quick "CONGRATS!!!" to the cheerleaders for their second place trophy. I meant to say something about it last Friday but I forgot. Sorry. If anyone has a picture of the team with the trophy I would be happy, no honored, to give it some space on this web site.
You know it's easy to write my comments when we win. Real easy. And thanks to all of you we have won a lot more than we have lost these last 2 years. But lets face it. Alex has been gone for 7 games now and we still seem to be suffering from post-Alex shock syndrome. Well I don't accept that. It should only have taken a game or two for everyone to make adjustments and for us to continue playing like the #9 and #1 ranked team that we were a short month ago. What got us those rankings was our D and now it's our D that is letting us down. I'm here to tell you that if you have heart and not much athletic talent you can be the best defender on the court. I should know because I was a player with a lot of heart and not much athletic ability. If you ask Alex he will tell you that I'm still a player without much athletic ability. If you have both heart and athletic ability you pitching shutouts. I would argue that man for man the P-town Panthers have the most talent in the KVA but right now we don't have the best defense in the conference and that makes no sense to me at all. Everyone on this team needs to dig down inside of themself and find MORE to bring to the table. More defensive effort. More intensity in practice. More concentration on the offensive end. More hustle in the open court. More steals. More rebounds. More boxing out. More fast break points. There's plenty of ways to contribute towards a victory besides an occasional 3 pointer. I expect a lot more from each and every one of you but the real question is what do you expect of yourself? We are five games away from the second season and we have a lot of work to do so lets get to it!!!
