Pominville's goal lifts Parchment in 2OTs
GRANDVILLE - The Parchment boys' soccer team had an entire day to think about blowing a late two-goal lead in their Division 3 regional semifinal game against Comstock Park. Junior Alex Pominville made sure the Panthers will remember the strange match fondly. Pominville scored his first goal of the season seven minutes into the second overtime to give Parchment a 4-3 victory in double overtime and send the Panthers to Friday's 3 PM regional championship match against Grand Rapids Forest Hills Eastern.
Parchment (14-5-2) led 3-1 with nine minutes left in regulation Tuesday, but surrendered a pair of late goals. When the match was still tied after the first overtime, officials halted the contest at Calvin Christian High School, which doesn't have lights on its soccer field, due to darkness. The teams returned to Grandville on Wednesday, and Pominville settle matters quickly.
"Soccer is a game of emotion, and (Tuesday night) we were ready to play," Comstock Park coach Mike Swift said. "We had them on the ropes and they were gassed emotionally and physically. The officials did everything they could to keep the game going, but it was too dark. We had our chances (Wednesday), but couldn't capitalize."

Coach T's : This is the stuff that legends are made of. I’m sure that future generations will refer to it simply as “THE GOAL”. Roughly eight minutes into the second overtime and roughly 22 hours after the first overtime Parchment suddenly found themselves on the offensive. Strikers Bon, Pinky, and Corwin were all feverishly attacking the Comstock Park goalie when suddenly the ball caromed straight right and from seemingly nowhere A.P. coasted in and slammed home “THE GOAL”. The faithful 50 (or so) fans who made the trek from P-town were graciously rewarded for their efforts as the team and the fans all streamed onto the field to celebrate Parchment’s journey to the round of 8. That’s right baby we are in the GREAT 8, one victory away from a FINAL 4 appearance. Sure, a FINAL 4 would be great but to tell you the truth these last 3 games have been PURE frosting. Beating KC made my season. Winning districts was simply amazing. And “THE GOAL” has put this season off the charts. To steal a phrase from one of my all time favorite sports teams let me simply say “Bless you boys!!”. Trust me there will be no losers on Friday, but, given that you got this far already, well, sometimes you just have to say “What the heck!” (aka Risky Business style) and go out there and give it all you have, leave it on the field and walk away with your head held high. Oh, and did I mention that I like that W on your back!!!
